Educate Yourself to Avoid Hidden Costs

When your Artistic rep comes to your home, he or she will provide you a free, factual, complete estimate that will help you avoid any hidden costs.  Some competitors will quote you on the basic installation, but fail to mention the cost for permits, root grinding, dump fees, drain, steps, etc.  Here are some requests and questions you should ask any company that is quoting your paver project.

Any Project

  • Please provide me a copy of your insurance that includes the agent’s name and number so that I can verify your insurance.  To protect yourself, make sure your contractor has both liability insurance and workers compensation insurance.
  • If in Pinellas County, ask for their license number (Artistic’s is C-10121).  Then go to www.pcclb.com, and confirm that they are truly licensed to do work in Pinellas County.

Driveways

  • Is the cost of the permit included in your estimate?
  • Who will be pulling the permit?  Red Flag – If they want you to pull the permit, or if they are having another contractor pull the permit, they probably are not licensed to do the work!
  • Will you be calling “Sunshine One Call” to identify utilities?
  • Who will be doing the excavation?  If it is a subcontractor, is the subcontractor insured?  (Note: having a subcontractor perform the excavation is not unusual nor is it a bad thing.)
  • What will the charge be to remove any roots you may find?
  • Does this quote include dump fees?
  • Are the pavers you will be installing made by a manufacturer that is ICPI Certified?
  •  If you make a mistake with your measurements, will you be asking me to pay for the increased work?
  • Is this the total price I will be paying for my new driveway?

Pool Decks

  • Does this quote include the cost to remove the cap tile or coping edge?
  • What will you do to ensure that the new coping properly bonds to the deck?
  • Does this quote include the cost of new deco drain, and if so, what size?
  • Will you provide a skimmer extension and lid?
  • Does your quote include the cost to raise the screen doors to allow for the height of the pavers?
  • Who will be responsible for cleaning the pool after the paver installation?
  • If you make a mistake with your measurements, will you be asking me to pay for the increased work?
  • Is this the total price I will be paying for my new pool deck?
